What do I need to know when choosing blinds? In the article we will consider all the nuances of this issue, get acquainted with the types of blinds, their advantages and disadvantages and, of course, solve the financial issue.

Blinds can perfectly replace curtains. It is not surprising that many increasingly prefer them, because care is much easier than behind curtains, and they perform the function of protection from bright sunlight an order of magnitude better. They do not prevent the penetration of light, but hide the situation from prying eyes. Now blinds are out of the category of strictly office sunscreen options and are becoming very popular for home interior decoration. They will be especially relevant in the summer.

Types of blinds

To begin with, it is worth deciding on the design, since convenience and the method of fastening, as well as appearance, depend on it. There are several types:

  • horizontal,
  • vertical,
  • roll and cassette,
  • pleated.

Horizontal blinds are the most common type. The slats are positioned horizontally in relation to the window sill. In addition, a variety of materials and designs allows you to seamlessly fit into the interior. They are universal: such a system can be installed both in workrooms and at home. They have many advantages:

  • They save space.
  • The mobility of the rails allows you to adjust the level of light penetration, and if desired, you can completely lift the canvas.
  • Different installation methods.

Important! When choosing this type, you should pay attention to the thickness of the lamellae – it should be more than 0.2 mm. The width is directly proportional to the thickness of the slats: the wider the blinds, the thicker the slats. This is necessary to prevent sagging. Blinds in brown colors are suitable for the kitchen:

Vertical ones are mainly used in a large house or apartment. They can be used to divide a room into several zones. The width of the bands varies. The height can also be different: up to the windowsill or to the floor.

Important! At the bottom, such blinds have a weighting, and it is better that it be plastic. It does not rust and will not spoil the appearance of the product, unlike metal options.

Bright solutions are also appropriate here. For example, in this case, pillows are harmoniously combined with blinds.

For panoramic windows in spacious living rooms, they will be an excellent choice.

Due to the features of blinds of this type, they can be used to decorate windows of unusual shape, for example, arched. The flight of the designer’s imagination is provided by the production material: most often they are made of fabric, so you can choose any length and color of the stripes, which can be changed at will to others.

The slats rotate around their axis, thereby providing the necessary illumination. There are models that are divided into two halves and move in different directions, and in others – they are going to the same edge.

Roll and cassette – the option closest to the appearance of curtains. They do not have lamellae and are made of different fabrics. The lighting is adjusted in a simple way – the blinds are lowered down or assembled up.

Due to the fact that this type of construction is made of matter, a large number of colors are possible.

Including with drawings that will dilute the interior and give zest to the room.

Cassette type with a pattern.

An original and interesting option is roller blinds with perforation, for example, with the image of a night city.

The difference between roll-up and cassette types lies in their design: roll-up blinds can be wound on the base if desired, and cassette blinds are already tightly fixed thanks to retaining valves located on both edges of the canvas. They are convenient on windows that are often opened for “airing” mode, however, such a system has a higher cost compared to a roll-up one.

Pleated blinds – as well as rolled ones, are made of a single cloth, but in this case it is folded into an accordion. The system is raised and lowered due to the guide thread installed at the edges.

Varieties by type of materials

Also, blinds are divided into several varieties, depending on the material of manufacture. The choice is very diverse, so everyone will be able to choose a model according to their requirements and wishes.

Aluminum blinds

The most common type, because it is simple and budget. The market provides a rich selection of models. For example, there are options with special holes to get interesting lighting.

You can also find unusual blinds with velvet coating, experiment with color and texture. This option combines convenience, practicality, stylish appearance and budget price.

Advantages:

  • It is easy to remove dirt – it is enough to wipe the blinds with a damp cloth.
  • A large number of positions that allow you to regulate the flow of sunlight.

Disadvantages:

  • The material is not characterized by high strength and is subject to mechanical damage.
  • Can create noise.

In terms of cost, vertical ones will cost a little more than horizontal ones. Also, additional factors may affect the price: the presence of perforation, color, and so on.

Wooden blinds

This material makes blinds quite expensive, especially due to the fact that cork wood is used for manufacturing. The natural pattern gives a special effect, making them a stylish option.

Advantages:

  • Eco-friendly material.
  • Long service life.
  • Resistance to temperature changes.

Disadvantages:

  • You cannot choose a large size, otherwise the system will become heavier and look awkward.
  • In order to avoid deformation of the rails, only dry cleaning can be carried out.

In terms of cost, more prestigious varieties of wood will come out more expensive.

Plastic blinds

This cheap material can be used in both horizontal and vertical systems and will fit into any style of room design.

Advantages:

  • plastic is the same as aluminum, easy to wash;
  • high moisture resistance;
  • plastic are less prone to deformations.

Disadvantages:

  • cheap plastic can get a yellow tint;
  • placed next to the battery, it can start to melt, so you need to consider this nuance.

Cost: plastic blinds are almost in the same price category as aluminum ones.

Fabric blinds

They have a predominantly vertical mounting method, but it will be quite problematic to find a horizontal one. Vertical mounting allows you to change the shape of the rails and diversify the appearance of the system. The service life is affected by the density of the material – denser models do not sag and do not stretch.

If you choose blinds for the bedroom, pay attention to the canvases that have a special coating on the street side, which prevents the penetration of light into the room. However, for other rooms, such as the kitchen, it will be inconvenient.

Advantages:

  • can be washed;
  • polyester, often used for the manufacture of the system, has high strength;
  • the material is resistant to fading, so it will retain its original appearance for a long time.

Disadvantages:

  • Poor-quality fabric can change due to sunlight.
  • The cost depends on the material of manufacture. For example, the cheapest is polyester, cotton and linen will cost twice as much.

Bamboo blinds

Exotic original material that will perfectly fit into the interior, made in oriental style. Thin bamboo plates are fastened with a thread in different places, depending on the weaving option. The type of construction can be either horizontal or rolled.

Advantages:

  • lightweight material is perfectly washable;
  • resistant to sunlight;
  • eco-friendly and natural.

Disadvantages:

  • relatively high cost;
  • they require careful treatment, since the system is quite fragile.

What to pay attention to:

  • The parts of the system must move freely and without obstacles.
  • When choosing a vertical type, decide in advance how they will move.
  • When installed on the wall, the width of the structure should be wider than the opening by about 10 cm on both sides.
  • In order not to form an “accordion” at the bottom, the height of the opening should be greater than the length of the blinds by 2 cm.
  • Vertical blinds covering the entire length of the wall should be about 5 cm above the floor.
